After swapping a beautiful metallic red 110CSW for a beaten up Camel Trophy 110 back in 2005, both Jen and I wanted to get travelling. We’d done several trips around Europe with our normal ground tent, but were getting increasingly impatient with the impracticalities and time taken to set up camp. So Jen, being the brains of the outfit started her investigation into roof tents. We soon settled on the MyWay Serengeti1.6 as the tent for us as it fulfilled all the important criteria including being lightweight, low profile and easy to setup and put away.
One of the main reasons for getting a roof tent was that we were planning to do some serious overlanding. This happened in 2007 when we shipped Charlie Camel out to Baltimore, USA, and from there drove a full circle around North America taking in the delights of New England in the summer, Canada and Alaska in the Fall, and Florida in Winter. After 5 months of camping in the roof tent in everything from the scorching heat of Death Valley, the freezing nights of Yukon and Alaska, and the extreme winds that Chicago is so well known for, our tent is still working a treat and now we wouldn’t be without it.
We have a blog of our USA and Canada trip, the address is http://usacanadatrip2007.blogspot.com
We also have an extremely poor website which I promise we will get around to finishing one day that lists some information about our vehicle, the modifications we have made, the planning of our big trip, and reports from other trips we have done.
