Canvas roof tent accommodation has dominated the market since the 1950’s and has increased in popularity as more suitable vehicles and relative disposable incomes have become available.

Unfortunately, with such a successful history the dinosaurs of the industry have done little to modernise and improve on the original design, perhaps choosing to rely on their brand names and success.

Now as much as we endorse the modern innovative specifications of our Evolution Tent, we still feel there is a much-deserved place for an improved canvas equivalent.

We therefore provide the MyWay Serengeti Tent with features in design that make the Serengeti out perform all its competitors.

The main issue for most roof top accommodation has been excessive weight causing stability concerns, and also as a consequence slower than possible erecting and pack down (often requiring 2 people).

This weight is usually attributed to the use of military grade canvas, way in excess for the requirements of roof top tents. Why? Because it’s the cheapest!

This heavy material therefore requires a heavy frame, therefore a heavy base, heavy mountings, heavy-duty suspension and so on!!!

The Myway Serengeti uses a specific lighter denier rip stop canvas allowing the design to feature as the Evolution Tent.

The Serengeti does though feature a marine ply base to follow a similar standard as its competitors.

Consequently you may be surprised to know the MyWay Serengeti weighs from only 7kgs more than the equivalent Evolution.

Why then the choice?

Why not!

Both the Evolution and Serengeti tents have their merits and we respect people have preferences.

For some the choice may be as simple as appearance, but for most each is suited to different styles of travelling.

I personally use the Serengeti!

I tend to be mainly a long sweekend tripper, taking my young son up and down the country on mini breaks or frequenting the shows.

The Serengeti provides me with a reasonable wake up time; the Canvas providing a darker environment from early Sun up (this takes several days to get accustomed to in the Evolution) yet keeps cool because of the innovative ventilation system adopted from the Evolution.

The canvas is also more forgiving to my son's exertions and those of the 50 kids he likes to invite inside.

The Serengeti will easily out perform its competition for use in overland adventure travel but I admit this is where the Evolution excels.

A little more care is also required to ensure the Canvas and wood combination keeps dry. Winter removal and storage is recommended for the Serengeti.
